To de-skill is to reduce the level of skill needed for a job, re-skilling is the process of learning new skills so that you can have a different job. The ready-mades infuence on art has introduced an effort of de-skilling; an approach to the artist prac-tice that no longer relies on the technical abilities of the object and image making, but on the pro-cess of thinking and critical analysis. The re-skill-ing takes place not from one practical technique to the next, as would be understood in terms of a factory worker needing to deskill after losing their job and needing to re-skill themselves for a totally new job, but a re-skilling in terms of releasing oneself from the constraints of an artistic practice that relies primarily on craftsmanship, in order to sharpen the skills of the minds critical processes. This re-skilling does not result in a continuous growth of the ability to create “beautiful objects”, but to develop a sensitivity and critical sensibility to the things that were already around. Various elements were present in this installation, with a focus on easily distributable materials like posters and digital content. Common imagery, devices and structures were appropriated, minimally manipulat-ed and abstracted in an attempt to subtly animate the usual and mundane commonplace.
